Fat or Fabulous ? Whale or Mermaid?

I took this paragraph from mind body green
The parable below, which is a commentary on body image, has gone viral on Facebook. What do you think?
A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was “This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?”

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

“Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.
They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.
They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?
They would have no sex life and could not bear children.
Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.
And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?

Without a doubt, I’d rather be a whale.

At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn’t enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.
We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.
Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: “How amazing am I ?! ”

Oh, suddenly I do feel myself very “shallow” aka 肤浅.

Allow me to share more meaningful quotes and statements…

  1. Absolutely love this post !!! like talking about my 心声!

  2. I also like this post. Give a lot of supports to those who look down on themselves, including myself. I don’t like the fat me, it’s something I hate since young, the teasing, humiliation and rejection are very hurting and affected me badly. Of course now being fat “seem okay” as people around me love me just the same.

These are not my 心声 but I salute these women, they are beautiful inside and outside. I am sharing these with everyone. i am so ashamed. 😦

  3. Don’t feel ashame lah babe. I am guilty of despising myself too. But ultimately it depends on what you want in life , i mean we can’t deny the fact that being thin does give you lots of opportunity to feel good , look great. That is the norm of our society.

But after seeing ur post it just enlighten
me it would be nice if i am slim, but if i can’t reach that goal, I am cool too since its God who wants things to remain this way 🙂 jiayou for reaching ur goal babe !

  4. Well, every women naturally would want to look slim and beautiful. It’s also our nature to envy others. So don’t get too upset with yourself.

FYI. I’m a plus size girl who used to be really slim when young. I’ve always stressed myself to lose weight by dieting etc. and I always feel I’m ugly etc. One day my hubby told me don’t starve just becos you want to look pretty. Just eat a balance diet and have enough exercise to stay healthy.

It’s no use looking good outside when inside of you is looking bad. He said love yourself and others will do the same. You are you, why you want to be like others? You are beautiful as who you are. As long as you’re happy that’s the most important.

His words woke me up. Now I no longer think negative about myself and I’m happy to be a healthy beautiful plus size girl.
