Before we moved, we used to have Muslims neighbours gathered at the void deck, praying every night for 3 weeks during the Ramadan. And our tummy grumbling as we smelled the aroma of sambal goreng and ayam goreng in the middle of the night but now, we can only hear the sound of crickets the whole night. Not that I’m complaining, quiet environment is good but frankly, I do miss the “kampung” feeling and the visiting during Hari Raya.
Today is public holiday, I made a point to tell Asher today is Hari Raya, it is a big day for our Muslim friends as they celebrate today to mark the end of the month of fasting and abstinence, Ramadan.
This was part of the show-n-tell craft work done by Asher, crescent and star are symbols used in Muslim tradition. It was hung at school foyer before Asher brought it back last week.
While I was hoping to be invited to friends’ house during this festive, my wish was granted when Ben came home telling me the Makcik from his company invited us to her house at AMK. I won’t deny, I was soooooo looking forward to the rendang and the boys were busy eating the muruku!
Various homemade cakes were served prior lunch. Asher had a few pieces and he loved them.
Tubs of yummy cookies baked by makcik and her daughters! Honestly, I could feel their joy of festive, just like CNY preparation, family bonding. 😍
Asher was eyeing at my plate but all dishes were too spicy to him. 😅 But Ben and I loved the Jawa dishes so much. Thanks makcik and family for having us today, I was so proud of myself that I could still converse in Bahasa. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all our Muslim friends!
